Acupuncture Dry Needling for Sport Medicine Program

Four courses (2A25, 2B25, 2C25, and 2D25)

Introduces the basic concepts of acupuncture dry needling treatment, including the neuroanatomical, evidence-based and basic science approaches to sport specific conditions. Safety issues and potential complications from acupuncture dry needling treatments will be discussed. Dry needling techniques, electrical stimulation, and trigger points will be explored. An in-person format will be used for lectures, practical needling sessions, written examinations, and practical examinations.

Registration opens on June 1, 2026, at 9 a.m.

The fee for each course is $1995 Canadian (CAD) with an additional non-refundable application fee of $250 CAD per course or exam at the time of registration.

The special discount tuition fee (including application and exam fees) is $5,995 CAD per registrant for the first ten registrants. Returning students who have taken our fundamental level program may be eligible for a further $1,000 CAD discount on completion and attendance for the four courses in its entirety. There is no charge for the examination if taken with the registered cohort on a specified date. Otherwise, the cost is $995 CAD plus a $250 CAD application fee to sit the examination on a different date, or retaking the examination due to failure, absenteeism, illness or injury, etc. Please see our terms and conditions for details.

The registrant may claim up to 53 hours of credits for work completed. The core components consist of 53 hours (ACUP 2A25, 2B25, 2C25, 2D25) of in-person contact. Upon successful completion, students of the Specialty Level-Acupuncture and Dry Needling For Sports Medicine may claim up to 53.00 Live AAFP Prescribed credits, which are to be reported as Prescribed credits to the AMA, who will accept them as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Exam

The exam will be held on Saturday, November 14. The written examination takes place in the morning and the practical examination is scheduled for the afternoon.

Tuition fees

  • Regular fee: $7,980 CAD
  • Tuition and application fees of $7,980 plus $1,000 application fee (or $250 per course or examination)
  • $995 examination fee if rebooked from scheduled date or for a second attempt (plus $250 application fee)
  • 2.5% Moneris non-refundable transactional fee

Please note: Students must successfully pass the written and practical examinations within two years of registering and starting the acupuncture program. Students will not be admitted to the examinations unless they have taken a refresher course and completed all the practical session requirements again.

At the end of the course, learners will complete a written examination and must score 75%. Learners must complete the practical/needling examination to assess their skills and score a 75% or higher.

Please note that this McMaster Medical Acupuncture Program: An Evidence-based Approach is chaired by Dr. K. Trinh.  If you intend to sign up for the Acupuncture Canada Acupuncture Program, the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College Acupuncture Program, or the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program by Dr. Elorriaga, please do not sign up for our program, as the Moneris bank transaction fees and the application fees to our program are non-refundable.

Course content or materials will be provided digitally.  Please bring a laptop to access the course content during classes.

Students must successfully pass the written and practical examinations within two years of registering and starting the acupuncture program.  Otherwise, students will not be admitted to the examinations unless they have taken a refresher course and completed all the practical session requirements again.
